Exercise Groups

Beaufort and Skipton Health Service provide a range of physical activity classes across both sites.

Exercise Groups are held in Skipton at Blake Street, Skipton. Exercise Groups are held in Beaufort at the Beaufort Community Development Centre [BCDC], corner of Lawrence and Pratt Streets, and Running Hare Fitness Gym, Willoby Street.

There are tremendous benefits to getting even a small amount of physical activity each day, both mentally and physically. Being active gives you more energy, helps you sleep better, reduces the risk of depression and can help to prevent a range of chronic diseases. Participants have six monthly assessments to monitor their progress.

Beaufort Exercise Groups are held on a Wednesday

  • Blokes Exercise Group - 9.00am
  • Strength Training - 11.00am
  • Strength Training at Beaufort Hostel - 12.45pm
  • Tai Chi is held on a Monday - 10.00am

Skipton Exercise Groups are held on a Thursday in the Activity Room in Skipton Hospital.

The Groups include:

  • Gait and Balance - 9.15am
  • Strength Training - 10.30am
  • Mum's and Bubs - 2.15pm
  • Gentle Exercise in the Pool during summer months
  • 2 Day Annual Walk - Overnight 2 day walk usually in May

Blokes Exercise Group

The Blokes Exercise Group uses the gym equipment and usually goes on a walk to warm-up, the exercise routines change from week to week

Strength Training

Strength Training is suitable for people of all ages, even those with chronic health problems.

Strength training is lifting weights using the high/low repetition principle. Each exercise is performed eight times using a weight that you able to lift. Strength training can improve bone density, reduce risk of fractures, and improve strength. It can also improve flexibility, improve balance, and improve energy levels, increase sense of wellbeing and many more benefits.

Gait and Balance

The Gait and Balance program was designed to prevent falls and improve balance. The class completes warm-up exercises to help maintain balance and the recovery of balance. This is followed by a circuit of stations with stair climbing, stable bike riding, treadmill, step up and others. The class finish with a cool down.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient, Chinese martial art form that is practiced around the world as a type of gentle exercise. It involves smooth, flowing movements to help improve the flow of life energy, or Qi (pronounced 'chee'), through your body. This is said to help create a sense of relaxation and improve or maintain health.

Mums and Bubs

Mums and bubs fitness group use gym equipment and also have a circuit routine. It's a great way for mothers to par take in exercise and have social contact with other mothers.

2 Day Annual Walk

2 days away and an overnight stay with a focus on gentle walks enjoying the different scenery with lots of time allocated to discover the locality.

What to bring: Loose comfortable clothing, supportive shoes, a small towel and a drink of water.
