We believe that health care needs to be proactive; we emphasise prevention of disease with exercise programs and regular health checks. Our Community Health Nurse and Health Promotions Officer regularly visit with schools and community groups to discuss such campaigns as QUIT and SunSmart. Our Physical Fitness Instructor, in cooperation with our GPs, also targets community members at high risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other ailments and prescribes a regular exercise routine.
Our Activities Coordinator oversees a large and vibrant Day Centre, with between 15 and 20 women meeting together weekly to socialize and learn new skills. The Men’s Health Program, which has doubled in size in the past year, provides an important socialization function for men in the community. We work in conjunction with the Shire to provide youth counselling and to help the Mothers’ Group meet their needs.
In short, we believe our activities serve as a model for the provision of physical, mental, and social health-care in a rural community.
